Mr. and Mrs. Charles O’Neal of Port Gibson announced the birth of a son, Toney. • Services were held for the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Taylor.

50 YEARS AGO: 1975

Jeromee Turner died in a fire that destroyed his home. • Kristopher Michael Hynum, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Ed Hynum, celebrated his first birthday. 

40 YEARS AGO: 1985

The Bird’s Nest Lounge had its liquor license suspended. • April Amanda Rusche celebrated her third birthday. 

30 YEARS AGO: 1995

Red Lobster opened on Pemberton Square Boulevard. • Vicksburg National Military Park historian Terry Winschel spoke to Bob Riley of C-SPAN about the Siege of Vicksburg.

20 YEARS AGO: 2005

The 18th annual Riverfest began at 6 p.m. • Rainey Chatman died at age 72.

Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs Jr. was pushing for a more streamlined form of government in the River City.
