It was rivalry night on the diamond on Tuesday as Warren Central and Vicksburg High faced each other in both baseball and softball. It’s only the second time in at least the last 15 years that the Warren County teams played each other in both sports on the same night.

Vicksburg’s softball team pulled off a stunner by beating Warren Central 7-4. It was the Missy Gators’ first win over the Lady Vikes since 2012, and came just two weeks after Warren Central won 18-0 in their first meeting of the season.

Shandrea Lockridge was 2-for-3 and scored a run for Vicksburg, and Camden McGloster was 1-for-2 with one RBI and two runs scored. McGloster’s RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning brought in the go-ahead run as the Missy Gators scored four times to take the lead.

The result shook up the MHSAA Class 6A playoff bracket. Warren Central (11-12, 6-2 MHSAA Region 2-6A) would have clinched the Region 2-6A championship by winning Tuesday, but will now be the No. 2 seed. It’ll face Saltillo in a first-round series beginning April 24.

Vicksburg (8-14, 5-3) was already locked in as the No. 3 seed and will play Grenada in the first round.

While the Missy Gators were shocking the softball world, Warren Central and Vicksburg’s baseball teams were playing a few hundred yards up the street at VHS’ Showers Field. Ryan Steed homered, Blake Caruthers and Tristan Jamison each had two RBIs, and Warren Central beat Vicksburg 12-2.

It was Warren Central’s 16th consecutive victory in the series, continuing a streak that began in 2013. The Vikings have already clinched the Region 2-6A championship.

Warren Central (15-9, 7-0 Region 2-6A) and Vicksburg (6-19, 1-6) will play again Friday at WC’s Viking Field. The junior varsity teams will play at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 7.
