100 YEARS AGO: 1925 

The Hyland Chapter , O.E.S., entertained at Grange Hall. •  “A Night in Hollywood,” arranged by Mrs. Charles Colhoun, was a success.

90 YEARS AGO: 1935

Vicksburg won the attendance trophy at the annual Mississippi-Louisiana district meeting of Rotarians in Biloxi. 

80 YEARS AGO: 1945

Col. George Morris was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in action against the enemy in France.

70 YEARS AGO: 1955

J.J. Newman Sr. died. • Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Wylie announced the birth of a daughter, Rose Anne. 

60 YEARS AGO: 1965

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Brasfield announced the birth of a son, Randall, on April 12. 

50 YEARS AGO: 1975

Army Pvt. Leon Johnson, son of Mrs. Louise J. Williams of Tallulah, was assigned to Fort Hood, Texas.

40 YEARS AGO: 1985

Sister Mary Camillus Fitzpatrick died. • Mark Rucker joined the advertising staff of the Vicksburg Evening Post. 

30 YEARS AGO: 1995

An insurance suite at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home was flooded after 5.17 inches of rain fell in 24 hours.

20 YEARS AGO: 2005

A check-cashing fraud ring operating in Jackson and Vicksburg was broken up by authorities.

10 YEARS AGO: 2015

Atami sushi opened in Vicksburg. • RiverFest was disrupted by heavy rain.
