A rainy week in Mississippi has led to some changes in the high school softball and baseball playoff schedules for several Vicksburg-area teams.
Game 1 of the first-round MHSAA Class 6A softball series between Vicksburg High and Grenada, and Warren Central and Saltillo, were both postponed Thursday because of rain and wet field conditions.
Vicksburg and Grenada will play Friday at 5 p.m. at VHS’ Softball Swamp field, rather than at Grenada as originally scheduled. The teams will play Game 2 and, if necessary, Game 3 of the best-of-three series as a doubleheader at Grenada on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
Warren Central and Saltillo will start their series Friday at 5 p.m. at WC’s Lucy Young Field. Game 2 is now Saturday at 3 p.m. at Saltillo, and if a Game 3 is needed it will be back at Warren Central on Monday at 5 p.m.
In baseball, Tallulah Academy has moved Game 2 of its MAIS Class 2A series against Union Christian from its home field to Key City Park — formerly Sports Force Parks — in Vicksburg. It will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday. If Game 3 is needed, it will begin immediately afterward.
Tallulah Academy leads the best-of-three series 1-0 after beating Union Christian 19-5 in Game 1 on Monday.
St. Aloysius has also moved its baseball games on Friday to Key City Park rather than Bazinsky Field. The Flashes will face Silliman in Game 2 at 5 p.m., and again at 7 p.m. if needed. Silliman won 5-3 on Tuesday and leads the series 1-0. St. Al must win twice on Friday to advance to the second round of the MAIS Class 5A playoffs.
Vicksburg Warren School District athletics director James Lewis said there have not yet been any time changes to playoff series involving Vicksburg and Warren Central that are scheduled to begin Friday evening.
Vicksburg will travel to Saltillo for Game 1 on Friday and Game 3 on Monday, and host Game 2 on Saturday. All three games will begin at 6 p.m. Friday’s game was moved to Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville.
Warren Central will host Center Hill Friday and Monday at 6 p.m., and travel to Center Hill for Game 2 on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Porter’s Chapel Academy’s MAIS Class 3A series vs. Lamar Christian is also on track to resume Friday. Lamar Christian leads the series 1-0, and will host Game 2 at 5 p.m. and Game 3 if necessary immediately afterward. Lamar Christian won Game 1 Tuesday in Vicksburg, 20-2.
Warren Central’s eighth-grade spring football game against Clinton is still scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday at WC’s Viking Stadium.
