- Warren Central's Madison Pant had three strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings pitched, and was also 2-for-3 with a double at the plate in a 3-2 loss to Saltillo in Game 2 of an MHSAA Class 6A softball playoff series on Saturday.
Warren Central went from the brink of a sweep to the brink of elimination in the MHSAA Class 6A softball playoffs.
Saltillo’s Madi Tutor hit a walk-off RBI single as the Lady Tigers scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Warren Central 3-2 in Game 2 of their first-round Class 6A playoff series on Saturday.
Saltillo (9-13-1) evened the best-of-three series at one game apiece. The deciding Game 3 is Monday at 5 p.m. at Warren Central’s Lucy Young Field.
All of the scoring in Game 2 came in the last two innings. Anzley Keen hit an RBI single in the top of the sixth to put Warren Central ahead 1-0, and Saltillo’s Addie Kesler tied it with an RBI groundout in the bottom half.
Addi Mullen led off the seventh with a double and scored on Mary Clell Allred’s single to put Warren Central back in front 2-1, but it couldn’t close things out.
Madison Padgett walked, and an error on a misplayed bunt put runners at second and third with one out. Cella Dye then laid down a squeeze bunt. WC pitcher Madison Pant tried to throw out Padgett at the plate, but the runner was safe and the game was tied.
The next batter was Tutor, who singled to left field to bring in the winning run with her walk-off hit.
Pant pitched 6 1/3 innings for the Lady Vikes (12-14), and allowed three walks and four hits while striking out three. She was also 2-for-3 with a double at the plate.
