Adria Burrell was a double winner for Warren Central, with victories in the 100 meters in 12,02 seconds and the 400 meters in 58.51 seconds.

Burrell was finished second to Vicksburg’s Amiyah Hall in the 200 meters to continue their season-long duel. Hall won the 200 in 24.56 seconds and Burrell was right behind in 25.03. In the 100 meters, however, Burrell was first and Hall was second in 12.22 seconds.

Burrell and Hall have gone head-to-head in the 100 and 200 at six meets this season. They’ve finished first and second — in some order — in eight of those 12 races, and one of them has won the other four races.

Warren Central also got victories from Mere’ Smith in the 300 meter hurdles, in 48.96 seconds; and Arrionna Jenkins in the shot put with a mark of 102 feet, 8 inches.

The Lady Vikes’ other state meet qualifiers were Jenkins (second place in the shot put), Marissa Stewart (fourth in the discus), and Madison Ward in four events. Ward finished second in the 100 meter hurdles, third in the triple jump, and fourth in the long jump and high jump.

For Vicksburg, Zion Knox was a double winner in the long jump with a mark of 17 feet, 9.5 inches, and the triple jump at 38-6.

Hall was part of two relay teams that qualified for the state meet, in addition to her two impressive runs in the individual sprints. She joined Nakia Jeffers, Raylyn Parson and Rocsie Stewart to finish second in the 4×200; and Stewart, Parson and To’Nia Taylor to finish third in the 4×100.

Other state meet qualifiers for the Missy Gators were Aaniyah Kelly (second in the long jump); Kennedy Williams (second in the discus); McKenzy Edmond (second in the high jump); and Xhia’reia Darensburg (third in the 300 meter hurdles).

Over in the boys’ meet, South Panola totaled 123 points to win the team title while Warren Central finished fourth with 87.

Vicksburg was a distant eighth with 38.5 points, but did notch one victory and qualify two athletes for the state meet.

Junior Jayden Woods won the discus with a throw of 127 feet, 11 inches, and also finished fourth in the shot put. Another junior, Shaun Archer, was fourth in the discus with a throw of 119-2.

Warren Central’s boys’ team won five events and will have nine entries at the state meet.

Junior Dwight Palmer won all three of his events on Saturday — the 100 meters in 10.73 seconds, the 200 in 21.52, and the 400 in 49.51. Palmer is undefeated in seven starts this season in the 200 meters, and has not lost to a Class 6A runner in any of the three sprint races.

Chester Savage won the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 40.52 seconds, while fellow senior Gavin Davenport is headed to the state meet after winning the shot put with a throw of 42 feet, 7.5 inches.

Rickey Neal qualified in both the long jump and triple jump; Rohan Caples finished second in the 800 meters to advance; and the 4×400 meter relay team slipped into the state meet field with a fourth-place finish.
