One person was hospitalized and another wounded after two overnight shootings Vicksburg Police Department (VPD) is now saying were likely related to a domestic dispute.
“At approximately 4 a.m. this morning, officers responded to Arcadia Street for a report of shots fired,” Police Chief Penny Jones said Sunday. “While investigating, a second call came in reporting additional shots fired in the area of 2nd North Street. Both incidents were determined to be connected.”
Jones said two people were reported injured as a result of the shootings.
“Shortly after, officers responded to the hospital where a 23-year-old Black male arrived with gunshot wounds,” she said. “Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transported to Jackson for further treatment. A 19-year-old Black female also suffered a graze wound to her right ear.”
Jones said a preliminary investigation suggests the shootings stemmed from a domestic dispute between two males involving the female. This incident may also be connected to a shooting that occurred early Saturday morning, she added.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact VPD at 601-636-2511.
