H.H. Dashiell completed an NRA survey in Warren County. • Dorothy Sue Pugh of Dodsville was in Vicksburg visiting Nellie Mae Woodrick. 

80 YEARS AGO: 1945

Mrs. Mittie Stephens of Yokena was ill at the Vicksburg Hospital. • The Vicksburg Evening Post reported the Nazis had given up in Italy. 

70 YEARS AGO: 1955

Mississippi Jycees began their convention in Vicksburg. • Frank Williams Sr. died. 

60 YEARS AGO: 1965

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Mary Upshaw.

50 YEARS AGO: 1975

Earl W. Lundy assumed duties as president of the First National Bank of Vicksburg. 

40 YEARS AGO: 1985

Erica Hand, Kacey Hill and Gayle Latham practiced dance routines in Valerie McVan Atwood’s class. 

30 YEARS AGO: 1995

A marker honoring the Sisters of Mercy, whose members worked as nurses for Civil War soldiers, was unveiled in Cedar Hill Cemetery. 

20 YEARS AGO: 2005

Pitcher Matt Cranfield led Porter’s Chapel Academy to a 4-2 victory over Benton in the Academy-A playoff series.

10 YEARS AGO: 2015

Fire Inspector Leslie Sanders, the Vicksburg Fire Department’s first certified female firefighter, retired after more than 23 years of service.
