Vantrel Reed got what is likely the first of many rewards for his part in LSU Shreveport’s historic baseball season.

The former Warren Central and Hinds Community College star earned first-team All-Red River Athletic Conference honors, as well as one of the league’s Gold Glove awards for defensive excellence.

Reed is batting .387 with three home runs, 11 doubles and 48 RBIs in 41 games this season. He has 11 stolen bases and scored 51 runs. He’s tied for second in the RRAC in runs, and ranks in the top 10 in batting average, doubles and RBIs.

In three seasons at LSU Shreveport, Reed has a .381 career average with 17 homers, 154 RBIs and 159 runs scored in 150 games.

Reed, a senior second baseman, was one of 11 LSU Shreveport players on the All-RRAC first team. Five others were on the second and third teams and six earned Gold Glove awards.

Among those selected were RRAC Player of the Year Josh Gibson and Pitcher of the Year Isaac Rhode.

The Pilots have a perfect 47-0 record heading into the RRAC tournament that begins Thursday in Sterlington, La. They’ll face Huston-Tillotson in the first round at 5 p.m. Thursday.

LSU Shreveport is also the No. 1 ranked team in the NAIA Top 25 coaches poll.

The 47 consecutive wins are the most ever by a four-year college baseball team. The previous record of 46 straight wins was set by NCAA Division II member Savannah State in 2000.

The longest streak at any level is 57 games by junior college member Howard College (Texas), in 2007. The NCAA Division I record is 34 games in a row by Texas in 1977 and Florida Atlantic in 1999.

The NCAA Division III record is 44 games, by Trinity College (Connecticut) in 2008. The previous NAIA record was 41, by Point Park College (Pennsylvania) in 1990.
