Janet Walters Yelverton went to be with our Heavenly Father Sunday, April 27, 2025. She was born in Laurel, Mississippi June 2, 1936, where she was raised working on the family farm and country store. She graduated from Glade High School and attended Jones County Junior College. In her high school years she was an active member in 4-H, where she eventually won a trip to Chicago. She also raised a prize-winning Hereford cow (Missie), which when sold at auction, providing the purchase price of the first automobile of married life with her high school sweetheart Gary K. Yelverton when they were wed June 11, 1955.
She became the proud mother of three children who adored her. She and her husband enjoyed a loving and full life together, being married for 69 years. Janet and her family moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi in August 1972 due to her husband’s career. She enjoyed being a homemaker, entertaining friends and family and working in her yard. After her husband’s retirement, they enjoyed traveling together, working on projects together and spending time with family. Of utmost importance to her was the relationship she had with our Lord Jesus Christ and nurturing her family in His light. She was a prayer warrior, devoted student of God’s word and devoted Sunday School teacher.
