One of Vicksburg’s big summer sports events is returning for another year.
The 11th annual Malcolm Butler Football Camp is scheduled for Saturday, July 19, at Vicksburg High School’s Memorial Stadium.
The camp will run from 8 a.m. to noon, and is for children in grades 1-12. It is hosted by former NFL star, two-time Super Bowl champion and Vicksburg native Malcolm Butler.
The camp is free, but advance online registration is required. You can register at this link.
The camp is split into the Malcolm & Me Camp for children in grades 1-6, and the Malcolm Butler Football Camp for those in grades 7-12.
Players participate in football drills and learn fundamentals and techniques. At the end of the camp, Butler will speak to campers and sign autographs.
Butler played seven seasons in the NFL from 2014-20 with the New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans. The cornerback won two Super Bowls with the Patriots, including Super Bowl XLIX when his goal-line interception in the final minute sealed a 28-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks.
Butler started his football camp in 2015 and has returned to his hometown and alma mater to host it every year since. Nearly 300 young football players from Vicksburg and surrounding areas attend the camp each July.
