The sixth annual River City Early College (RCEC) Signing Day was held Friday.
Michelle Fisackerly is a tenth-grade history teacher and the lead organizer of the event.
“This is my favorite day of the year. I get to celebrate them,” she said. “It’s a good time for the parents to celebrate one last time with their seniors, with their class and the students as well.”
The event took place in the RCEC parking lot as a tailgate party.
Of the 66 seniors graduating from RCEC this year, three will be going directly into the workforce and 63 have signed with colleges or universities.
Fisackerly said this is the first year they have not had any seniors enlist in the military.
The Vicksburg-Warren School District has a policy of preparing students for one of four paths after they graduate: enrollment in a college or university; enrollment in technical training; employment in the workforce; or enlistment in the military.
Signing Day is a chance for students, parents, and teachers to celebrate the future of the graduating class.
