Behind every successful community event is someone working quietly, long before the first guest arrives. For this year’s Big Wheels Keep on Turning event, that someone was Rick Daughtry, parks and recreation director for the City of Vicksburg, who became an invaluable part of the Junior Auxiliary of Vicksburg’s team.
Rick’s support went far beyond typical logistics. In the days leading up to the event, he worked alongside our members assembling equipment the night before, hanging sponsor banners at 6:15 a.m., and lending advice with the calm and confidence of a seasoned mentor. Every question had an answer. Every request was met with a “yes.” His presence provided not only physical support, but also reassurance, encouragement, and a sense of community that set the tone for the day.
“He didn’t just help us,” said one JA member. “He carried us in ways we didn’t even know we needed. His kindness, patience, and dedication meant everything.”
Rick Daughtry exemplifies what public service is all about — going above and beyond for the good of others, often without recognition. The Junior Auxiliary of Vicksburg is deeply grateful for his hard work and proud to honor him as a vital part of Big Wheels’ success.
As we reflect on this year’s event and all those who made it possible, Rick’s name will remain at the top of our list.
Thank you, Rick. Vicksburg is lucky to have you.
