The Vicksburg Police Department (VPD) said a man wanted in connection with a shooting Sunday evening near the intersection of Clay Street and Mission 66 turned himself in to VPD just hours after the incident.

According to the VPD, the victim identified Demarcus Bishop, 23, as the individual who shot him. Bishop was wanted for questioning for an aggravated assault.

“This was a violent act in our community, and we are pursuing all leads to bring resolution to this case,” Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones said in a statement Sunday night, roughly an hour before VPD announced Bishop was in custody.
