“Around 7 p.m. tonight, while dining with friends at Superior Crab in celebration of Cinco de Mayo and a valued friend’s 30 years of service on her job, an unfortunate and deeply troubling incident occurred,” Jones said. “In the midst of what should have been a joyful evening, an altercation broke out in the ladies’ restroom involving three women. Tragically, one of the individuals involved discharged a firearm, striking another female in the lower part of her body.”

Jones said the suspects involved were known to one another and involved one person from Tallulah.

“During our preliminary investigation, the victim informed officers that there has been an ongoing feud between her and one of the suspects,” Jones said. “The two were reportedly involved in a physical altercation this past weekend at a local establishment. She also disclosed that one of the suspects is a resident of Tallulah, Louisiana.”

Jones said two of the women involved are now in the custody of Vicksburg Police Department and each is facing aggravated assault charges, adding the woman struck by the gunfire is being treated at a local hospital. Jones said it is unclear at this time whether the injured party will also face charges stemming from the incident.
“Our department continues to review video footage and gather all relevant evidence as part of our ongoing investigation,” Jones said.
Jones said Tuesday that both suspects currently in custody are scheduled to make initial appearances in Vicksburg Municipal Court Wednesday.
