Voting is under way for The Vicksburg Post’s Athlete of the Week contest.

This week’s nominees are track athletes Dwight Palmer (Warren Central baseball), Amiyah Hall (Vicksburg) and Schaffer Bell (Porter’s Chapel); and baseball player J.T. McDaniel (Tallulah Academy).

Voting is open until midnight Tuesday, and you can vote as many times as you want until the deadline.

Dwight Palmer, a junior sprinter with Warren Central’s boys track and field team, won the MHSAA Class 6A championship in the 100, 200 and 400 meters at the state meet on May 3, with times of 10.73, 21.84 and 49.12 seconds respectively.

Amiyah Hall, a sophomore sprinter with Vicksburg High’s girls track and field team, won the MHSAA Class 6A championship in the 200 meters at the state meet on May 3, with a time of 24.64 seconds. She also finished second in the 100 meters and the 4×200 meter relay.

J.T. McDaniel, a sophomore with Tallulah Academy’s baseball team, had 19 strikeouts and allowed four runs in 11 1/3 innings pitched in a playoff series win over Tensas Academy. He also batted .400 and scored three runs in the three-game series.

Schaffer Bell, a junior with Porter’s Chapel Academy’s boys track and field team, won the MAIS Class 3A championship in the triple jump at the state meet on May 2, with a mark of 38 feet, 6 inches. He also finished third in the long jump, sixth in the high jump, and ran on the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 meter relays.
