100 YEARS AGO: 1925 

Robert Perry was presented with an Eagle Scout badge. •  Dr. Edley Jones was in Biloxi attending a medical meeting.

90 YEARS AGO: 1935

Mrs. Frank Bedford returned from a visit in Atlanta. • Mrs. William Fitz-Hugh, Mrs. Olive Catchings, Mrs. Carrie Wood and Mrs. T.W. McCoy motored to Greenville to attend a flower show. 

80 YEARS AGO: 1945

The Warren County Unit of the American Cancer Society was organized with J.R. McConahie named as chairman. 

70 YEARS AGO: 1955

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Nicholls announced the birth of a son, Richard Jr., on May 3. • Mr. and Mrs. William Brown announced the birth of a son, Alan, on May 7. 

60 YEARS AGO: 1965

Billy T. West, a former Warren County resident, died in Odessa, Texas. • Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Tickell announced the birth of a son, Christopher, on April 23. 

50 YEARS AGO: 1975

Mr. and Mrs. Isaiah Jones announced the birth of a son, Cedrick Isiah, on May 7. • Mr. and Mrs. Raymond S. Dyson announced the birth of a son, Matthew Scott, on May 5.  

40 YEARS AGO: 1985

Mrs. Edna Humes died. • Third-grader Lawrence Steed Jr. wrote the winning essay at St. Francis during a special Mother’s Day contest for which his mother received $630 in local gift certificates. 

30 YEARS AGO: 1995

Culkin Water District customers were urging members of the board to keep rates from increasing. 

20 YEARS AGO: 2005

The shooting death of 26-year-old Kennado Caples was Vicksburg’s only homicide of the year thus far; however, police had few clues to work with. 

10 YEARS AGO: 2015

Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs Jr. submitted a plan for changing the city’s form of government, while aldermen Willis Thompson and Michael Mayfield opposed the idea.
