Tryouts for Vicksburg High’s 2026 softball team will be held May 20-22, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. each day at the Softball Swamp field on Army Navy Drive. Players must be entering grades 7-12; have a current physical; and their own glove and appropriate athletic clothes. For more information, email coach Briana Knox at briana.knox@vwsd.org.

Malcolm Butler Football Camp
The 11th annual Malcolm Butler Football Camp is scheduled for Saturday, July 19, at Vicksburg High School’s Memorial Stadium.

The camp will run from 8 a.m. to noon, and is for children in grades 1-12. It is hosted by former NFL star, two-time Super Bowl champion and Vicksburg native Malcolm Butler.

The camp is free, but advance online registration is required through this link.

The camp is split into the Malcolm & Me Camp for children in grades 1-6, and the Malcolm Butler Football Camp for those in grades 7-12.

Players participate in football drills and learn fundamentals and techniques. At the end of the camp, Butler will speak to campers and sign autographs.

City Pool to open May 30
Vicksburg City Pool will open to the public for its summer swim season on Friday, May 30, at 1 p.m. The entry fee is $2 per swimmer, and there is a dress code of proper, modest swimsuits. No cotton, sports bras or T-shirts are allowed in the water.

Patrons will be able to swim for two-hour sessions, from 1-3 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Monday. Wednesday and Thursday are reserved for daycare centers and special groups by reservation. The pool is closed on Tuesday and Sunday. It will also be closed June 6-8 and July 12 for Vicksburg Swim Association meets, and for the July 4 holiday.

Lap Swimming is available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday on non-swim lesson weeks, and noon to 1 p.m. during swim lesson weeks. The schedule is based on a limited swimmer to lifeguard ratio.

The maximum swimmer capacity will be 60 patrons for each two-hour period. Because of the shortage of lifeguards, the deep end of the pool will be closed.

For more information, call City Pool manager Sylvia Gurtowski at 601-801-3831 or email her at sgurtowski@vicksburg.org.

The inaugural Chad McMullin Memorial Push/Pull powerlifting competition is scheduled for July 26 at Wyatt’s Gym in Vicksburg.

The event is sanctioned by the APF and AAPF, and will begin with a rules briefing at 9 a.m. and competition at 10. A one-piece lifting or wrestling suit is mandatory. Events will include the bench press and deadlift.

The entry fee for the meet is $50 before July 12, and $75 after that date. Payments can be made via Pay Pal @hardcorebarbellMS.

All proceeds will go toward an annual scholarship for a Warren Central High School senior — the Chad McMullin Memorial Scholarship, named in honor of the school’s late powerlifting and football coach.
