Southern Miss is headed into the postseason as one of the hottest teams in the country.

Matthew Russo had four hits and scored twice, Joey Urban drove in three runs, and Southern Miss finished the regular season with an 8-5 victory over Troy on Saturday.

Southern Miss (41-13, 24-6) swept the series and ran its winning streak to 15 games, which ties the school record set in 2022.

Urban doubled in two runs in the first inning and Nick Monistere singled in two more in the second to give Southern Miss a 4-0 lead it never relinquished.

The Nos. 2-5 hitters in Southern Miss’ lineup — Monistere, Russo, Carson Paetow and Urban — combined to go 10-for-19 with six RBIs and six runs scored.

Former Warren Central star Shane Lewis singled and walked in five plate appearances for Troy (37-19, 18-12 Sun Belt Conference).

Southern Miss will be the No. 2 seed for the Sun Belt Conference tournament that begins Tuesday in Montgomery, Alabama.

The Golden Eagles will play Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. against either App State, Texas State, Georgia Southern or Arkansas State. Those four teams, who are the Nos. 7-10 seeds for the tournament, will play a pair of elimination games Tuesday. The lowest remaining seed will play No. 1 Coastal Carolina and the higher remaining seed will face Southern Miss.

Troy is the No. 3 seed and will play Old Dominion Wednesday at 9 a.m.
