HOOVER, Ala. — It didn’t take long for the Southeastern Conference baseball tournament to get upended by weather.
Because of severe thunderstorms moving through the Hoover, Alabama, area Tuesday evening, the final first-round game between Mississippi State and Texas A&M was postponed until Wednesday morning.
The Bulldogs (34-20) and Aggies (28-25) will play at 9:30 a.m. The loser is eliminated — the tournament is single-elimination — and the winner will face Auburn (38-17) Thursday at 11 a.m.
The postponement means the rest of the schedule has been affected as well. Every game will be pushed back one time slot, so Ole Miss (37-18) and Florida (37-19) will play the final game Wednesday at approximately 8 p.m. It had originally been set for a 4:30 start.
Alabama and Tennessee will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday, and Oklahoma will play Georgia at 4:30.
Three games were completed Tuesday before the tournament was halted for the evening. Alabama beat Missouri 4-1; Oklahoma eliminated Kentucky 5-1; and Florida beat South Carolina 11-3.
The SEC made its decision to suspend play between the Florida-South Carolina game and Mississippi State vs. Texas A&M to allow the stadium to clear. A line of severe thunderstorms was moving into central Alabama and expected to persist the rest of the night.
