The Rev. J.C. Greenoe, former pastor of the First Baptist Church, was a guest at the Rotary Club luncheon. 

80 YEARS AGO: 1945

Mrs. Katie W. Bullen was elected district chairman of the State B&PW Club, succeeding Mrs. Gertrude Nelson. 

70 YEARS AGO: 1955

Services were held for Thad Wright.

Mary Helen Sims was elected president of the Vicksburg Art Association.

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Guthrie of Vicksburg announced the birth of a son, Christopher Adam on May 17.

House Speaker C.B. “Buddie” Newman of Valley Park was presented with a special award for legislative leadership.

Dirt work began at the downtown site of the present-day convention center.

The Old Mississippi River Bridge celebrated its 75th year.
