HOOVER, Ala. — Ole Miss earned the right to hang around Hoover a little while longer.
Pitchers Hunter Elliott, Mason Morris and Connor Spencer combined to allow one run, and the Rebels beat Florida 3-1 in the Southeastern Conference baseball tournament late Wednesday night.
Elliott had eight strikeouts and allowed one run, one walk and two hits in 5 1/3 innings. Morris and Spencer followed with 3 2/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Neither reliever walked a batter.
All of Ole Miss’ scoring came in the fourth inning. Judd Utermark and Isaac Humphrey hit back-to-back two-out doubles to bring in the first run, and two errors brought in another. The second error was a throwing error on an RBI single by Campbell Smithwick.
Utermark and Smithwick both finished with two hits.
Florida (38-20) was knocked out of the single-elimination tournament after losing for the third time in four meetings this season against Ole Miss. The Gators lost to an SEC opponent for just the fifth time in 20 games since starting conference play 1-11. They were 0-for-14 with runners in scoring position.
Ole Miss (38-18) advanced to face No. 2 seed Arkansas (43-12) in a quarterfinal game Friday at 3 p.m. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
