LEWISTON, Idaho — LSU Shreveport’s baseball team is so money it’s reached the double nickel.
Isaac Rohde pitched seven solid innings and the Pilots hit three home runs as they beat Grand View (Iowa) 6-3 in their opening game at the NAIA World Series on Friday.
Former Warren Central star Vantrel Reed was 1-for-4 for the Pilots. Austin Gomm hit a two-run home run in the first inning, Jackson Syring a solo shot in the third, and Diego Aragon another two-run homer in the fourth to put the Pilots ahead 5-0.
Aragon, Syring and Gomm finished two RBIs each. Syring also hit an RBI single in the seventh inning.
Rohde allowed eight hits and three runs in seven innings, but did not walk a batter and struck out five. He started the eighth inning but was pulled after giving up a leadoff single and then a two-run home run to Brock Rinehart.
Lex Meinderts followed with one scoreless inning of relief, then Brock Lucas pitched the ninth for his third save of the season.
It was the 55th consecutive win for LSU Shreveport (55-0), which extended its record for longest winning streak by a four-year college baseball team. The record for any team is 57, by two-year program Howard College in 2007.
LSU Shreveport will play again Monday at 8:30 p.m. against Hope International University.
