Warren Central checked off a lot of program milestones this baseball season, and had a long list of postseason awards as well.
Ten Vikings were selected to the All-Region 2-6A team, and two for the MHSAA Class 6A All-State team in voting by coaches around the state.
Center fielder Hayes Loper and infielder/pitcher Maddox Lynch were both named to the all-state team. Loper was a first-team selection and Lynch a second-team pick.
Loper led the Vikings to their third consecutive Region 2-6A championship and the Class 6A semifinals by batting a team-best .392 from the leadoff spot. He also led the team in hits (38), runs (30), doubles (10) and triples (4).
Lynch missed the first 10 games of the season with a wrist injury, then helped spark the Vikings to a run of 17 wins in 18 games upon his return. He batted .350 — second on the team behind Loper — with two home runs, 18 RBIs and 17 runs scored.
Lynch was also one of WC’s top pitchers. He had a 4-1 record in nine appearances, with a 2.61 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 32 1/3 innings. He only walked six batters.
Loper and Lynch were also part of the wave of All-Region 2-6A players for Warren Central. Alongside them on the all-region first team were infielders Lester Martin and Tristan Jamison; catcher Trace Hood; outfielder Blake Caruthers; and pitchers Nathaniel Moore and Beau Bradley.
Pitchers Justin Greer and Caden Cole were on the all-region second team, and designated hitter Jacob Kealhofer was an honorable mention selection.
Hood ranked third on the Vikings with a .337 batting average. He also hit two home runs and seven doubles, and had 20 RBIs.
Jamison, a second baseman, hit .304 with seven doubles, scored 28 runs and had a team-high 24 RBIs.
Martin only hit .220, but scored 15 runs and was an excellent defensive first baseman.
Caruthers held down the right field spot while driving in 18 runs and scoring 16.
Moore and Bradley were part of a deep pitching rotation. Bradley had a team-best 7-1 record, struck out 36 batters in 32 1/3 innings, and had a 2.16 ERA. Moore pitched a team-high 51 innings and had 60 strikeouts, a 2.47 ERA, and a 4-4 record.
Opponents batted only .189 against Bradley and .214 against Moore.
