3 enter not guilty pleas in court

  1. Three people entered pleas of “not guilty” in the courtroom of Judge M. James Chaney Tuesday.

Victor Jones, along with Emily Lelonek, is charged with felony child abuse. They were indicted by the May 2025 Grand Jury regarding an incident that occurred on or about July 1, 2024. The indictment regarding the alleged abuse reads ” . . . did intentionally burn or torture . . . did whip, strike or otherwise mutilate” involving a two-month-old child. Jones pleaded not guilty. Trial was set for December 8.

Alvis Christon was also indicted by the May 2025 Grand Jury. He faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, trafficking, and possession of a weapon after a felony conviction. The charges stem from an incident on March 29, 2023, in which he was found to be in possession of more than 30 grams of methamphetamine and a 9mm Hi-Point pistol, according to court records. He has a prior felony conviction in 2018 for the sale of a controlled substance. Christon pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Tyreese Carter has been indicted for aggravated assault and drive-by shooting in connection with an incident that occurred February 12, 2024. He and Avante DeAnthony Wilson are accused of opening fire in the 1500 block of Ethel St. with a firearm and attempting to cause bodily harm to Jaheim Truitt. Carter pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In other court matters, trial for Albert Thomas and Carolyn Mansfield has been set for the July 14, 2025, term. Thomas and Mansfield are accused of arson and depraved heart murder in the death of Ernest Gleese. On February 12, 2024, Vicksburg firefighters were called to 508 1/2 Speed St. where they encountered the home fully engulfed in flames. After extinguishing the fire, the body of Gleese was found inside the home. The fire was alleged to have been set after an argument over drugs.
