Nancy Guion Hammersla, 78, passed away Monday, May 19, 2025, in Tontitown, Arkansas. Born July 7, 1946, Nancy was known for her vibrant personality. She was a beacon of joy and generosity, touching the lives of everyone she met with her kindness and giving spirit.

Nancy’s life was marked by her deep commitment to her family and her faith. A lifelong United Methodist, Nancy was a dedicated member of Lakeside United Methodist Church in Pine Bluff for more than 40 years. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing her with strength and comfort, especially during her battle with COPD.

Nancy was an avid golfer most of her adult life. Her passion for golf began in LaMarque, Texas, where she was taught by her husband Hammer at Twin Lakes Country Club. She excelled in golf, becoming the Ladies Club Champion a few times at Rosswood Country Club in Pine Bluff, where she was a member for 30 years. The friends that Nancy and Hammer made at Rosswood were like family, and she cherished those memories.

Nancy’s social life was rich with friendships formed in various cities including New Orleans, LaMarque, Pine Bluff, Little Rock, and in northwest Arkansas. These relationships, particularly with her “Greenie Girls” from her childhood days in Vicksburg, were cherished deeply throughout her life. She was always the life of the party and was even voted snow queen a few Christmases ago at Vitality Living in Little Rock.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Michelle Banks (formerly Odum) of Little Rock; son, Scott Hammersla (Malesa and son, Logan) of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and grandchildren, Mark Odum, Seth Odum and Kate Odum. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Hammer” Hammersla; parents, Charles Donaldson Guion Sr. and Rob Davidson Guion; brother, Charles D. Guion and his wife Carol Lagg Guion; and foster daughter, Judy Wilkins McCandless.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Pinecrest Funeral Home in Alexander, Arkansas. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a columbarium side service at Forest Hills Cemetery led by the Rev. Roy Smith, Nancy’s former pastor at Lakeside UMC.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Sandy and Jim Burkett, whose kind and loving care assisting Nancy over the past several months means so much to her children and grandchildren; and to Elite Home Hospice workers, who answered questions and tended to Nancy’s needs with gentleness and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association in Nancy’s memory.
