Released in 2017, Destiny 2 has had a huge amount of success through the years thanks to the many updates and content released along its lifespan. With all this in mind, it’s no wonder people still want to come back or start it from scratch to see just how much it has to offer. In this article, I want to delve into some of the more niche advice I have so that you can be ready for all the content that this game throws at you. Which can be a lot sometimes, but don’t worry, once you get the hang of it you will be thankful you put in the effort and can now enjoy one of the best action RPG games that there is.

If you come out of this thinking you’re ready for the game but still feel it might be too much to take in, trials carries Destiny 2 will help you with some of the slower parts. They can help you with almost every activity the game has! This way you can skip some of the grind and difficult parts of the game.

Don’t stress about power level too much

It’s true that power level is important, but you shouldn’t sacrifice fun to get it! I would equip gear and weapons I didn’t like just to make the number go up. But little did I know that just doing the right quests will yield more and more gear that did sync up with my play style. So just use whatever you like and only change it once the gear is not only good in stats but also good for you.

Armor stats

A good continuation to my previous point. Armor has a lot more stats than just power level to give. Sometimes an armor piece that has less power level still ends up being more useful thanks to the other stats it provides, so always make sure to check every aspect of a piece of gear before replacing it!

Seasonal events

Maybe one of the weakest aspects of Destiny 2, in my opinion, is just how much content gets taken away once it’s done, from weapons, armor to even pretty important story events. It’s crazy just how much content in Destiny is temporary. It’s very recommended that you try to take advantage of the seasons to experience every piece of temporary content!

Do your weekly activities

Once you reach your soft power cap, you will find it pretty hard to increase your power in any other way than doing your weekly activities. Look for every task that has a gold circle beside the name, and you’ll know that these yield special rewards as well! It’s vital to know how to progress in this game once the handholding stops.

Finish the main campaign

Finishing the main campaign, specially in legendary, will leave you set for pretty much every other activity the game has, as well as giving you a badass set of armor to go along with your newfound power. The story of the game is great as well, so just go into it and become immersed by the lore while you passively gain more and more power level.

Collectors

You can regain weapons you scrapped by talking to the collectors, but one of the downside of this is that the random rolls that the weapons have are gone now, replaced by fixed stats. If you were part of an event, and you got a weapon that had an incredible stat roll, and you scrap it, that weapon is gone for good. The collectors will only be able to give you a worse version of it. Specially if a weapon is good for PvP just keep it and don’t scrap it!

Subclass builds

Having the right build for your subclass is vital to becoming a good guardian. You might even need to look up some build guides online because these are extremely customizable, from movement abilities to grenades and even different ultimate abilities. Having all of this in mind, you can probably see why picking the right build is vital to playing the game the way you want to and, by extension, enjoying the game more!

Don’t be afraid to take breaks

If you started playing the game now, there’s a bunch of content you already missed, so don’t feel bad about maybe missing out on some more. Destiny 2 is a huge game that also asks for a lot of your time, and if you love the game, that’s fine! But you shouldn’t burn yourself out on the sheer amount of activities to do and gear to find. You’re going to miss out on some content, and you need to learn to live with it, it’s not that serious! You never want to feel pressured to play a game.

Public events

Public events are extremely useful because you get seasonal currency, XP and a sometimes some pretty good loot, so keep an eye out and help your fellow guardians in these activities!

In conclusion

Destiny 2 is a massive game and no one will tell you otherwise. But if you’re looking for this kind of action looter-shooter where you and your friends embark in different PvE and PvP missions, there’s very few that even come close to the level of quantity and quality that this game offers. If you’re one of the many new players coming into this game, then you will be happy to know that the game isn’t near their sunsetting. In fact, they’re still releasing story content as well as crossover content with different franchises like Star Wars. Who knows what else they will come up with! This game has quite the learning curve, but if you’re putting in the effort you will see that Destiny 2 is a game worth giving your time.
