90 YEARS AGO: 1935

Hugh White, a candidate for governor, delivered an address in Vicksburg. 

80 YEARS AGO: 1945

Twice a prisoner of the Germans, once wounded and twice operated on in a German POW camp, Sgt. Johnnie Nosser returned home. 

70 YEARS AGO: 1955

Mr. and Mrs. Watson Sudduth and daughter were vacationing on the Gulf Coast.  

60 YEARS AGO: 1965

Mrs. Bertha Lee Preston died.

50 YEARS AGO: 1975

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. Strickland announced the birth of a son, Brian Scheafer, on May 22. 

40 YEARS AGO: 1985

Howell Gage, president of Merchants National Bank, had his blood pressure checked by registered nurse Mary Hogan at Mercy Hospital as the bank participated in a pilot program. 

30 YEARS AGO: 1995

Dirt work began on the site of what would become Dana Road Elementary. 

20 YEARS AGO: 2005

Vicksburg resident James Jones honored his uncle, First Sgt. William Moore, on Memorial Day.

10 YEARS AGO: 2015

Flash flooding destroyed the Vicksburg Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, forcing it to focus on rebuilding.
