The Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition Program (STAR) allows schools to recognize high-achieving teachers and students in Mississippi.
The Star Student chosen for St. Aloysius High School is salutatorian Samantha Edwards. The Star Teacher, chosen by Edwards, is Danielle Bergeron.
“It has been an absolute joy and privilege to teach Samantha over the past four years,” Bergeron said. “From Honors Geometry to AP Calculus, with Chemistry and Honors Algebra III in between, I’ve had a front-row seat to her remarkable growth — not just as a student, but as a person. Every single day, she has demonstrated an exceptional work ethic, a genuine love of learning, and a kindness that is evident in every interaction. She leads by example, lifts others up, and never backs down from a challenge. I am confident that Samantha’s future will be bright because I know that whatever path she chooses, she will pursue it with the same grace and determination that have brought her so much success already. She is every bit deserving of the title ‘Star Student,’ and words can’t fully express how honored I am to be chosen as her ‘Star Teacher.’”
Edwards told The Post why she chose Bergeron as the Star Teacher.
“Mrs. Bergeron is not only an effective and amazing teacher, but a teacher who loves her students and works tirelessly so they can succeed,” Edwards said. “I have had Mrs. Bergeron for four years, and she has made every lesson fun, concise and enlightening.”
Edwards will be studying mechanical engineering at Mississippi State in the fall.
Bergeron also mentioned how much she respects the graduating class.
“The Class of 2025 is truly special,” she said. “What stands out most to me is how well-rounded and diverse they are not just in their talents, but in their character. They’re athletes, scholars, artists, leaders, and individuals with unique perspectives, all coming together to support one another and build something greater than themselves.”
Bergeron said the Class of 2025 has been great role models for the schools incoming seniors.
“Over the years, through their faith, love, and support of one another, they have modeled resilience, compassion, and the beauty and power of community,” she said. “This group has helped shape each corner of our school and has definitely made their mark here at St. Aloysius, and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
