W.A. Johnston, a Vicksburg industry executive, was named chairman of a Mississippi Economic Council committee to review the organization’s labor-management relations policies. 

60 YEARS AGO: 1965

Mamie Thomas, the first female rural mail carrier in the United States, died in Warren County. 

50 YEARS AGO: 1975

Viola Sullivan received a silver necklace upon completion of 20 years of service with Westinghouse. 

40 YEARS AGO: 1985

Linda Jackson competed in the Miss Teen Pageant. 

30 YEARS AGO: 1995

Gautam Pandey of Vicksburg graduated from the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science in Columbus.

Vicksburg mayoral candidates disagreed on how to use the city’s cable access channel, RCTV23.

Vicksburg native Taylor Thomas Hosemann returned home from New Orleans to serve as a choreographer for the Miss Mississippi’s Outstanding Teen competition.
