SHREVEPORT, La. — LSU Shreveport’s baseball team has one more stop to complete its historic season — the White House.

The school announced that its baseball team has been invited to the White House to celebrate its undefeated season and NAIA national championship. The invitation came Monday during a phone call from Speaker of the House Mike Johnson at a championship celebration in Shreveport.

Johnson’s congressional district includes Shreveport. He also plans to read a proclamation recognizing the Pilots into the Congressional Record. Details of the planned White House visit have not yet been announced. It is customary for the sitting U.S. President to visit with a number of championship teams from all sports throughout the year.

“One last thing, I wanted to let you know that President Trump shares our excitement about all this as well, and he wants to invite the team for a visit and celebration at the White House,” Johnson said during the call.

The invitation was the latest honor for LSU Shreveport in a season for the ages. The team won its first national championship in any sport by beating Southeastern University 13-7 in the NAIA World Series on May 30.

The victory capped a perfect 59-0 season, which is believed to be the first time a four-year college baseball team has gone undefeated for an entire season. The 59 consecutive victories are also the most ever for any college baseball team at any level. The Pilots bettered the previous mark of 57 in the NAIA World Series semifinals.

When they returned home the Pilots were treated to a celebration at Festival Plaza in Shreveport on Monday. More than 1,000 people attended. hreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux declared June 2, 2025, as “LSUS Pilots Baseball Day” in the City of Shreveport and awarded a key to the city to head coach Brad Neffendorf.

“I think we just changed the landscape of small college athletics in the state of Louisiana,” Neffendorf said during the celebration.

LSU Shreveport’s roster includes second baseman Vantrel Reed, a Vicksburg native and alumni of Warren Central and Hinds Community College. The senior capped an incredible college baseball career by fielding a ground ball and throwing to first for the final out of the World Series.

Reed, the 2024 Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Year, earned All-RRAC first team honors again this season as well as being named a second-team NAIA All-American. He batted .378 with five home runs, 61 RBIs, and 60 runs scored.

In three seasons with LSUS Reed had a .379 career batting average, 19 home runs, 43 doubles, 167 RBIs, 216 hits and scored 168 runs in 162 games.
