Judge Toni Walker Terrett hosted “All Rise,” a summer youth camp for students. The camp ran from June 2-6 and concluded with a mock trial in which each student played a part as judge, attorney, jury and all the staff needed for an authentic trial.

Eighteen students, aged junior high through high school senior, took part in the camp, which was held at the Warren County Courthouse.

The week of immersion into the world of the court also included a field trip to the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum and the State Capitol. Students were able to observe a live court session and participated in a series of workshops that included topics such as “Conflict Resolution,” “Finding Your Passion,” and “Drug/Alcohol Abuse Prevention,” as well as a session at the United Way with conversation about youth ideas and concerns.

Awards were given to particular students, such as “Most Likely to be a Legislator,” “Most Likely to be a Judge,” “Most Likely to Own a Business,” and several others. Each student was given a certificate for completion of the course and 20 community service hours.

At the closing ceremony, Judge Terrett thanked each student for their participation, and said, “My staff, myself, everybody that was involved, we do this because we care, and we want the best for you all. I am here to support you, just see you all do better and see you guys do good things and prosper throughout life.”
