Vicksburg’s June 3 municipal election yielded razor-thin results, with unofficial numbers giving mayoral challenger Willis Thompson and Ward 2 challenger Vickie Bailey wins by a combined 136-vote margin. Vicksburg City Clerk Deborah Kaiser-Nickson said she expects final results to be certified Friday.
Thompson defeated longtime Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs Jr. by 61 points, while Bailey defeated incumbent Ward 2 Alderman Alex Monsur by 75 votes.
Kaiser-Nickson said 111 affidavits, along with any mail-in votes postmarked by Tuesday, June 3, still need to be counted before results can be certified.
The Resolution Board will meet in the Ward 2 conference room Wednesday morning to begin the work of counting the final absentee and affidavit ballots.
The new administration, regardless of the final outcome of the races, will officially begin its time in office Tuesday, July 1.
