The road to a championship for Mississippi’s high school football teams will lead to Starkville this season.
The Mississippi High School Activities Association announced Wednesday that its seven football state championship games will be played Dec. 4-6 at Mississippi State’s Davis Wade Stadium.
It’s the first time since 2016 that Mississippi State has hosted the state championship games. They had rotated between Southern Miss, Ole Miss and Jackson’s Veterans Memorial Stadium since then. Southern Miss hosted the games last season and Ole Miss in 2023.
“We’re honored to serve as the host for the 2025 MHSAA Football State Championships at Davis Wade Stadium and to bring teams, families and fans from across Mississippi to The Best Small Town in the South,” Mississippi State director of athletics Zac Selmon said in a statement. “These championships showcase the tradition, talent and passion that define high school football in our state, while giving student-athletes the chance to compete on one of the premier campuses in the country. We’re excited to create a first-class experience these student-athletes will always remember.”
The seven championship games will be spread across three days. Class 1A will kick off the weekend at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4, and will be followed by Class 5A at 7:30 p.m.
On Dec. 5, Classes 4A and 6A will play at 4 and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
Finally, a tripleheader will wrap things up on Saturday, Dec. 6. Class 3A will play at noon, Class 2A at 3:30 p.m., and Class 7A at 7 p.m.
