OMAHA, Neb. — Rain or shine, LSU is doing fine in Omaha.
Jake Brown, Steven Milam and Daniel Dickinson each hit RBI singles, and Casan Evans pitched 4 1/3 effective innings as LSU beat UCLA 9-5 Tuesday in the completion of a suspended game at the College World Series.
The teams played three innings Monday night before play was suspended because of rain. They finished the game Tuesday morning, which meant a quick turnaround for UCLA (48-17). The Bruins will take on Arkansas (49-14) in an elimination game Tuesday night.
LSU (50-15) will face the winner of the UCLA-Arkansas game Wednesday at 6 p.m. The Tigers, who won the national championship in 2023, can advance to the CWS finals for the second time in three years with another win.
LSU improved to 2-0 in the CWS for the eighth time in its 20 appearances. It won the national championship six of the previous seven.
The teams traded hot starts before the rain arrived Monday night, with UCLA taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning and LSU answering with four runs in the bottom half.
Milam hit an RBI single to put the Tigers on the board, then Jared Jones followed with a three-run home run to give them the lead. Luis Hernandez also hit an RBI single in the third inning to make it 5-3.
The game was suspended between the third and fourth innings, and LSU quickly added to its lead when play resumed Tuesday. Four straight batters reached base with two outs in the bottom of the fourth, with Milam and Brown delivering back-to-back RBI singles to extend the lead to 7-3.
Dickinson singled in another run in the seventh to push it to 8-3. UCLA clawed two runs back in the bottom of the eighth, but also left the bases loaded.
Jones hit another RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to give LSU its final run. He finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Brown had three hits and two RBIs, and Ethan Frey reached base four times and scored four runs.
Evans allowed two runs and struck out five batters for LSU in what was effectively a spot start. Anthony Eyanson pitched the first three innings Monday night, then Evans took the ball Tuesday and did not allow a run until the eighth inning. He allowed four hits and no walks.
