As the City of Vicksburg prepares to transition into a new administration July 1 following the June 3 municipal election that saw a new mayor and Ward 2 alderman elected, a formal inauguration will take place Sunday.

Mayor-elect Willis Thompson, Ward 2 Alderwoman-elect Vickie Bailey and Ward 1 Alderman TJ Mayfield will all be sworn into office during a special ceremony at 6 p.m. at the Ardis T. Williams Sr. Auditorium, 901 Monroe St.

Thompson defeated longtime Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs Jr. in the election, while Bailey defeated incumbent Alderman Alex Monsour. Mayfield, who was elected Ward 1 Alderman during a special election in 2024 following the death of his father, former Ward 1 Alderman Michael Mayfield, ran unopposed in the 2025 regular election.

Sunday’s event is open to the public.
