During its regular meeting Wednesday, the Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) approved the latest list of derelict properties on the Community Development Agenda.
Community Development Director Jeff Richardson presented the list, which included properties that pose a risk to the community based on the need for cleanup, demolishing of unsafe structures, or other maintenance work.
Wednesday’s list included:
- 1345 East Ave.; property cleanup; complied.
- 2704 Oak St.; property cleanup; not complied.
- 2428 Halls Ferry Road; property cleanup and demolition; not complied.
- 1612 South St.; property cleanup and demolition; not complied.
City ordinances require property owners to keep their properties cut and clear of debris and their homes repaired. A violation results in a letter from the city ordering the property owner to clean the property or demolish the dilapidated home.
Under city ordinance and state law, the city may go in and cut and clean property, or hire a private contractor to clean property, that has been determined to be a threat to public health and safety, and place a tax lien on the property.
