The All-Star Futures Game is an annual seven-inning match-up of the game’s top prospects that are nearing the majors. Griffin, Montgomery and Cijntje are among nine first-round selections from the 2024 MLB draft who will play in this year’s game.

Griffin was selected ninth overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates, and is the No. 2 prospect in their organization. The 19-year-old shortstop/outfielder has split time this season between Class A teams Bradenton and Greensboro and has a combined .343 average with 12 home runs, 48 RBIs, 67 runs scored and 37 stolen bases in 67 games.

Griffin is ranked No. 31 among all prospects, and Montgomery is right behind him at No. 32. The outfielder is batting .274 with 10 home runs and 49 RBIs in 70 games for the Chicago White Sox’s Class A affiliates Kannapolis and Winston-Salem.

Montgomery was drafted 12th overall by the Boston Red Sox in the 2024 draft, but was traded in December to the White Sox as part of a deal that sent all-star pitcher Garrett Crochet — another Mississippi native, from Ocean Springs — to Boston.

Cijntje made waves at Mississippi State not only with his 98 mph fastball, but also as an ambidextrous pitcher who can throw with both his left and right hands. Since the Seattle Mariners selected him 15th overall in last year’s draft he has become the No. 8 prospect in the team’s organization. The Mariners have continued to let him pitch with both hands in the minors to see which side he’ll be more effective from.

Cijntje is currently pitching for the Class A Everett AquaSox. In 12 starts he has a 4-4 record, with a 4.88 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 51 2/3 innings. Opponents are hitting only .191 against him, but he has walked 31 batters.

White and Jump are both top-10 prospects in the Athletics’ organization. Jump, a left-handed starting pitcher, is 8-3 with 89 strikeouts and a 2.09 ERA in 14 games. He is currently at Double-A Midland.

White was part of LSU’s 2023 national championship team and is the Athletics’ No. 6-ranked prospect. He has nine home runs and an .852 on-base plus slugging percentage in 48 games this season for the High-A affiliate Lansing Lugnuts.

The MLB All-Star Futures Game will be held at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday, July 12, at Truist Park in Atlanta, and the event will be televised on the MLB Network and simulcast on MLB.TV, MLB.com and via the MLB app.
