Country music recording artist and Vicksburg native William Michael Morgan will headline this year’s Independence Day celebration and fireworks show, the Independence Day Planning Committee announced this week.
The event is scheduled to take place in front of the Old Depot Museum, 1010 Levee St., beginning Friday at 7 p.m., with the concert and ending with the 9 p.m. fireworks show over the riverfront. Special appearances include the Board of Mayor and
Aldermen, Miss Mississippi 2025 Anna Leah Jolly, and Miss Mississippi Teen 2025 Avery McNair.
Morgan released his debut album, “Vinyl” in 2016. The album included the hit single “I Met a Girl,” which reached No. 2 on the U.S. Country Airplay chart.
“We are so excited to bring William Michael Morgan to the event for a homecoming concert,” Visit Vicksburg Executive Director Laura Beth Strickland said. “This will be a great draw for the city’s bicentennial featuring one of our hometown musicians. Vicksburg’s Independence Day is one of our biggest events of the year with the longest show along the Mississippi River. We
hope everyone will come out and enjoy the festivities.”
In addition to the performance, Strickland said vendors will be set up along Washington and Levee streets. Participants are
invited to bring their lawn chairs and enjoy special commemorative giveaways, she said.
Strickland said a special thanks goes out to Vicksburg Independence Day sponsors, including: the City of Vicksburg; Visit
Vicksburg; Vicksburg Main Street; Vicksburg Partnership; Vicksburg Convention Center; International Paper; Bally’s Casino; Ergon; Golding Barge Line; Ginger Donahue; Riverwalk Casino; Servpro; Eagle Ridge Development; Neel-Schaffer; Vicksburg Plant Food; Brown Bottling Group; Cook Tractor; and The Scoop.
