Vicksburg man killed in fatal wreck

Accident reconstruction specialists with the Mississippi Highway Patrol were at the scene of a Sunday morning accident Monday to determine the cause of a fatal accident in which a Vicksburg man was killed.

Vicksburg police said Dr. Noland Boyd, an associate professor of chemistry at Alcorn State University, was killed when the motorcycle he was riding was struck from behind by a car driven buy Kevin Williams Jr., 17, also of Vicksburg. The accident occurred about 12:30 a.m. Sunday on U.S. 61 South, just south of Crossway Church.

Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey said Boyd was declared dead at the scene. According to the police accident report, Boyd was ejected and landed in the median.

Police Chief Walter Armstrong said Williams was taken to Merit Health River Region Medical Center and later released. He said an unidentified passenger in the car was not injured.

Alcohol was not believed to have been involved.

Vicksburg Police with assistance of the Mississippi Highway Patrol planned to investigate the crash with accident reconstruction on Monday.
