Elizabeth Conlee Hand

Elizabeth Conlee Hand died Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015, at Promise Hospital in Vicksburg at the age of 98. She was born Dec. 26, 1916, the daughter of John Ray and Mignon Davis Conlee. She was a lifetime member of Bethesda Baptist Church where she was the song leader for many, many, years, as well as being a leader of some of the children’s organizations in the church.

Mrs. Hand was a homemaker until her children were grown. She was then employed by Hinds County Cooperative in Raymond, and later at Hinds Nursery and Garden Center in Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, L.C. Hand; her parents, John Ray and Mignon Davis Conlee; and her sisters, Agnes Conlee Mangum and Mildred Conlee Smith.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Pierce and Dr. Bill Pierce of Vicksburg, sons and daughters-in-law, Jogene and Yancey Hand of Canton and Buddy and Martha Hand of Terry; nine grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and her sister, Ruby Conlee Johnson.

Pallbearers are her grandsons, Steve Hand, Shelton Hand, John Hand, Kevin Hand, Dr. Paul Pierce, and Dr. Sam Pierce. Honorary pallbearers are R.L. Mangum, Chuck Morgan, John Morgan, Joe Ogletree, Jody Ogletree, William Roberts, Mike Baldwin, Nick Bullard, Eugene Osborn, Phillip Bowen, and Albert Ray Dulaney.

Services will be at Bethesda Baptist Church on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Bethesda Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Parkway Funeral Home, 1161 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, and from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service Wednesday at Bethesda Baptist Church, 13628 Midway Road, Terry. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Promise Hospital for their wonderful care. We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to her special caregivers for the past several years, Bobbie Peavey and Carol Reid.
