A vehicle hit a 4-year-old child Tuesday evening in a hospital parking lot in Vicksburg.

Tyler Richards, 4, Mississippi 27 Vicksburg, was with family leaving Merit Health River Region Medical Center when the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

“It appears at this time as the family got in their Chevy Tahoe preparing to leave the parking lot the mother, Adrianne, thought all were in the vehicle,” Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.

The family was unaware Richards had not gotten into the vehicle, and he was hit by it as the family left the parking lot.

He was immediately taken into the emergency room at River Region and airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

“That all we have at this time,” Pace said. At press time, hospital officials said he was in fair condition.
