William Morrow “Bill” Abney

William Morrow “Bill” Abney died Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at The Olive Branch Senior Care Center in Tallulah, La. He was 92.

Bill was born July 4, 1923, in Toccopola, graduated from Amory High School and attended Mississippi State University for two years. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, attended flight school, was commissioned as an ensign and served as a naval pilot during World War II. Upon his discharge, he entered the University of Mississippi and graduated with a degree in business administration.

He moved to Vicksburg in 1954 and resided here until his death. He retired as a pharmaceutical representative from McKesson-Robbins, and Durr-Fillauer. Bill and family were founding members of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon, Elder, and Elder Emeritus. Bill was an active choir member for many years.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Willo Dean Abney.

Survivors include his son, John Morrow Abney (Martha) of Rolling Fork; daughter,

Nona Abney Smith (Hugh) of Vicksburg; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nephews, cousins, and close friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2016, at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Reiber officiating.

Visitation will be Monday from noon until the hour of service. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Christian Gardner, Carter Abney, James Smith, Lawson Harlow, John Faulk and Jimmy Harrison. Honorary Pallbearers will be Trey Clardy, Dr. Robert Walker, Mark Monroe, Bob LaBarre, Richard Stockstill, Dr. Gordon Sluis, Charles Lutz, Terry Warren and Chandler Whitney.

The family expresses a special thanks to the staff at Belmont Gardens, Vicksburg; and The Olive Branch Senior Care Center and Crossroads Hospice in Tallulah for the special care and attention given to their father.
