A couple was arrested on misdemeanor charges Friday after causing a ruckus at the Vicksburg Police Department and earlier at a local school triggering it to go on lockdown.

A Vicksburg High School student’s stepfather went to the school Friday afternoon and made a scene because of allegations his stepdaughter had made, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

“I can confirm someone was on campus behaving inappropriately and the school was put on cautionary standby, or soft lockdown, until the individual was cleared from campus,” Christi Kilroy, Vicksburg Warren School District communications director, said.

Williams said after the man was made to leave the school, he and the girl’s mother went to the Vicksburg Police Department where they continued to cause a disturbance and were eventually arrested.

They were charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

The couple’s daughter told a friend at school that she had been raped Friday morning at an undisclosed location, Williams said. The friend reportedly took the girl home around noon, where she told her parents.

The man accused of the assault has been detrained and is being questioned. No arrest has been made nor charges filed at this time.

The couple’s identity and the identity of the individual being questioned were not released.

“The investigation is still ongoing,” Williams said.
