Even by slow-pitch standards, Tuesday’s game between Vicksburg High and Forest Hill was an offensive affair, but VHS (12-3) survived to win a 20-14 slugfest in which the teams combined for 44 hits.

Latoya Trunell went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and five RBIs for the Missy Gators, who pounded out 26 hits. Brandi Parker added two triples, Dayna Nugent had three hits, winning pitcher Amber Landers went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, Lauren Johnson had two hits and three RBIs and Krystal Lofton went 2-for-3 with an RBI double.

Getting a win was nice, but VHS coach Josh Harper said the Missy Gators had to shape up before Thursday’s division game at Warren Central.

“It was ugly, but it was a win. We have to fix our mistakes before Thursday,” Harper said.

WC 9, Crystal Springs 5

Ashley Chaney’s third-inning grand slam keyed a six-run inning as Warren Central (10-4) rallied from a 5-0 deficit to get the win.

Anna Mitchell had a double and Lashandra Williams hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning for the Lady Vikes, who beat Crystal Springs 19-1 in WC’s August tournament.

Four WC errors led to five Crystal Springs runs in the bottom of the second inning.

“We beat them pretty badly there and I think we had it in our minds where we’d go out and give a half effort and the other team would lay down, but that was not the case,” WC coach Lucy Young said.
