A December trial date has been set for three of the four Vicksburg men charged in an attempted robbery of Mutual Credit Union on Aug. 16.

Greg Ross, 18, 304 Melrose Ave.; Marquis McCroy, 18, 400 Melrose Ave.; and Josef Buchanan, 18, 409 Melrose Ave., are set to be tried Dec. 4 in federal court in Vicksburg on charges of attempted bank robbery, U.S. Attorney Woody Bond said Thursday. All three pleaded innocent.

The fourth suspect, 17-year-old Kevin Palmer, 107 Arbor Lane, will have a hearing today in Jackson to determine if he will be tried as an adult, Bond said.

Palmer, Buchanan and McCroy were arrested hours after the morning robbery attempt at the Mutual branch at Waterways Experiment Station. Ross was arrested the next day.

All four face a sentence of up to 20 years if convicted.

Buchanan and McCroy remain in the Madison County Detention center, while Ross and Palmer were released on bond.

On the morning of the attempted robbery, Mutual tellers told police four men showed up 30 minutes before the bank’s 9 a.m. opening time, and the tellers noticed one of the men pull a ski mask over his face. Police were then called.
