Top-ranked Clinton could be minus its top remaining tailback when it visits No. 11 Warren Central (7-1, 3-1) for a Region 2-5A showdown Friday night.

Mario King, 18, was arrested for statutory rape Wednesday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 15. The Arrows (8-0, 4-0 in 2-5A) lost top tailback Coco Hodge to a broken leg two weeks ago.

King (5-9, 185), who ran for 162 yards and three touchdowns in a 41-6 win over Vicksburg Friday, has 759 yards and 14 touchdowns.

King, a senior, and the girl, a sophomore, were absent from school Tuesday, according to the girl’s statement to the police. The girl said she and King spent the day at a relative’s home where they had sex.

If convicted, King could be sentenced to up to five years in prison and fined $5,000. Statutory rape is a felony.

School officials have had no comment on King’s status with the team.
