JOYCE ACUFF
Joyce Acuff died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 65.
Born in Delhi, La., Mrs. Acuff had lived in Vicksburg for the past 45 years. She was a member of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Acuff; her parents; and a brother, Mack Carney.
She is survived by two daughters, Sandy Gordy and Betty Uzzle, both of Vicksburg; a son, Horace “Tiny” T. Blackledge Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va.; three sisters, Norma Jean Williams and Mary Grace Lee, both of Alabama, and Barbara Heard of Louisiana; a brother, Fred Carney of Tyler, Texas; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. E.L. Sharp officiating under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the service Thursday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Paul Gordy, Chad Gordy, Jamie Acuff, Lee Stephens, Brian Uzzle and Wayne Blackledge.
Honorary pallbearers will be Marlon Knighton, Albert Jordan and James Blackledge.
ARCHIE BLUE
Archie Blue died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Vicksburg Medical Center. He was 88.
Mr. Blue was retired from Anderson-Tully Company. He was a member of Mount Zion No. 4 Baptist Church where he was a deacon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Abbie Lee Blue; his parents, Archie and Annie Blue Sr.; and a son, Charles Blue Jr.
He is survived by two sons, Claude Blue and Lonnie Dean Blue, both of Vicksburg; five daughters, Willena Miles and Mildred Scott, both of Blye, Ore., Bobbie Swafford of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Linda Johnson and Beverly Johnson, both of Vicksburg; 33 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
HUBERT MILLER
HUFFMAN, Texas Hubert “Keith” Miller died Saturday Dec. 9, 2000. He was 48.
Mr. Miller was born in Vicksburg. He owned and operated Northshore Vacuum and Sewing Company in Huffman, Texas. He received a bachelor of theology from Texas Bible College in 1975. He was a member of Huffman Church, where he was a trustee.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Franklin Miller.
He is survived by his wife, Christy Miller of Huffman; a son, Jared Miller of Nederland, Texas; a daughter, Paige Miller of Huffman; his mother, Gloria Miller of Vicksburg; two sisters, Sheila Gray of Vicksburg and Debra Buller of Wagoner, Okla.; a brother, Melvin Miller of Thibodeaux, La.; and other relatives.
Services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Huffman Church with the Rev. Joe Kearse officiating. Burial followed at White Cemetery in Highlands, Texas, under the direction of Sterling White Funeral Home in Highlands.
JAMES RONALD REEVES
EDWARDS Services for James Ronald Reeves will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Edwards Baptist Church with Dr. Russell McIntire officiating. Burial will follow at Edwards Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 Wednesday night at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until the service Thursday at the church.
Mr. Reeves died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at his home in Edwards. He was 53.
A native of Greer, S.C., he had been living in the Edwards community for the past 10 years. He was a regional food sales manager in Atlanta before moving to Edwards. He was a member of the Bailey Masonic Lodge in Greer and was a member of the Edwards Baptist Church where he served as Sunday school president, superintendent and sang in the choir.
He was preceded in death by his father, Troy T. Reeves.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Gayle Reeves of Edwards; a son, John Angelo of Ridgeland; a daughter, Lori Penton of Brandon; his mother, Audrey Few Reeves of Edwards; and two grandchildren, Stephanie Gayle Penton of Brandon and Mary Gina Penton of Brandon; and other relatives in Greer.
Pallbearers will be Jerrell Strawn, Larry Dickson, Bob Fisher, Larry Smith, Billy Smith, Stephen Haik, John Wheeless, Nathan Baraham and Andy Branciere.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Wilkerson, Mike Mitchell, John Thomas, John Carroll, Jerry McWilliams, Cappy Strawn, Eastside AA Group of Vicksburg and the men of the Grace Sunday school class of Edwards Baptist Church.
