EDGAR T. BIRDSONG JR.
Edgar T. Birdsong Jr. died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. He was 94.
Mr. Birdsong was a native of Youngton and was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He was the son of the late Edgar T. and Rebecca McCraine Birdsong Sr. He retired in 1969 with 30 years of service as a printer for the Waterways Experiment Station. He attended Oak Ridge School. He was a honorary life member of the advisory board at Crawford Street United Methodist Church, where he was also a member of the men’s Bible class. He served in the Civil Conservation Camp from 1935 until 1937.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Vera Bezard Birdsong and Kathleen Hayman Birdsong; and a brother, David Reed Birdsong.
He is survived by a son, Edgar T. Birdsong III of Grayson, Ga.; a daughter, Sherrill B. Hall of Vicksburg; two sisters, Margaret Sturgis of Clinton and Bird Elise Hunt of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Geoffrey Joyner officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon until the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Perry Hall, Arthur Klaus, Joey Hall, Billy Hunt, Dean Hall, Gene Sturgis and Mac Klaus.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Crawford Street United Methodist Church Men’s Bible Sunday school class.

RICHARD D. EVANS JR.
Richard D. “R.D.” Evans Jr. died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at his home. He was 52.
Mr. Evans was a logger and a member of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard D. Evans Sr.; three brothers, James Evans, Albert Evans and Leroy Evans; his maternal grandparents, Prentis Coleman and Mary Coleman; and his paternal grandparents, Lynch Evans and Melaine Evans.
He is survived by four sons, Edric Ron Evans, James Charles Carson and Terry Levon Carson, all of Vicksburg, and Richard Darnell Evans of Minneapolis, Minn.; six daughters, Lori Jean Dumas, Robbie Dell Evans and Willie Mae Evans, all of Minneapolis, and Clara Anita Jenkins, Linda Faye Hill and Veronica Ann Butler, all of Vicksburg; two brothers, John L. Evans and Tommy L. Evans, both of Vicksburg; five sisters, Willie Evans Harder, Ludella Shields, Mary Evans Carson, Edna Evans Davis and Bobbie Evans, all of Vicksburg; 13 grandchildren and other relatives including the Coleman family of Vicksburg and the Myles and Evans families of Utica.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
JOYCE ANN JOHNSON
Services for Joyce Ann Johnson were Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at Yokena Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.
Miss Johnson died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at her home in Vicksburg. She was 39.
She was a native of South Carolina and lived most of her life in Delta, La. She was a member of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by a daughter, Amanda DeLaughter of Vicksburg; two sons, Kenneth Johnson of Tabor City, N.C., and Robbie Richardson Jr. of Vicksburg; her parents, Mickey and Joyce Lee Johnson of Green Sea, S.C.; two brothers, Johnny Eugene Johnson of Tallulah and Michael Johnson of Tabor City; a sister, Rebecca Johnson of Tabor City; and three grandchildren.
RUTH MORRISON MONTGOMERY
Ruth Morrison Montgomery died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001. She was 86.
Mrs. Montgomery was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., and had lived in Vicksburg for the past 83 years. She was a 1934 graduate of Carr Central High School. She was a homemaker and a member of the Vicksburg Country Club and the Ladies Golf Association. She was a member of the Presbyterian faith.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Kate Harding, Mary Martin, Elizabeth FitzHugh and Esther Morrison.
She is survived by her husband, Malcolm “Mac” Montgomery of Vicksburg; two sons, Malcolm B. Montgomery Jr. of Vicksburg and Robert Putnam Montgomery of Slidell, La.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Joe Dawsey, George Hunt, Richard Marcus, James Davis, Bobby Hannon and Bill Caldwell.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Luckett, C.H. Harris, Doug Lewis, Mary Winkley, Florence Amborn and Jean Rule.
