[03/27/01] One week after the beginning of spring, Old Man Winter tried Tuesday morning once again to assert himself by sprinkling sleet in the Vicksburg area. It melted immediately.
Tom Thompson of the National Weather Service said sleet and snow were reported across much of Warren County around 7:15.
“This is something that happens every once in a while, so it isn’t completely unheard of,” Thompson said.
Winter precipitation was also reported in Raymond, Jackson, Port Gibson and D’Lo, Thompson said.
He said the temperature was 13 degrees above freezing when the white stuff fell.
“The temperature a couple of thousand feet above us can be freezing or below, and the precipitation can fall,” Thompson said.
The temperature Tuesday was forecast to reach 62 degrees. Storms and rain were predicted for the rest of the week.
